China provides an annual grant of $1.5 million to UNRWA

The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the State of Palestine, Cheng Jixin, signed the annual grant to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) on Wednesday, in the amount of US$1.5 million.

The agreement was signed at the Agency's headquarters in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

Ambassador Zheng noted has provided assistance to support UNRWA in fulfilling its mandate. China has not only provided cash and medical assistance to the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and other areas of UNRWA operation, but has also increased its annual contribution to UNRWA.

He underscored Beijing’s consistent position in backing UNRWA since its founding in the late 1940s, rooted in China’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and its push for a just and comprehensive resolution to the conflict.

He also expressed his appreciation for the services provided by the Agency to approximately 6 million Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and the diaspora.

Ambassador Zheng affirmed that the international community cannot ignore the difficult humanitarian conditions facing the Palestinian people, calling on the international community to increase financial and medical support to the Palestinian side, through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

He stressed that China is a loyal friend of the Palestinian people, firmly supporting their just demands of the Palestinian side and any efforts made to achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution.
